This Is a Sequel!!!!! Read the First Book FIRST!!!!
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
Ok, Listen up Ladies and Gents!! The first book in this series is one of my all time favorites, Divergent (please see Our Favorites), and I have hardly been more excited about anything! And I am extremely pleased to announce that it did not disappoint!
In the first book, This girl named Tris left her old "faction", Abnegation (the selfless), for Dauntless (The brave). She is also a Divergent which is hard to explain, but dangerous in the world she lives in. When Tris changes factions, she doesn't realize just how bad her world is and what she has to do to save it. Divergent was absolutely phenomenal and left with a cliffhanger that tears at your insides until you get more. That relief was Insurgent. I had no trouble devouring this book, and guess what, it left me with an even more intense cliffhanger! Oh, joy...
Tris has to be one of the best heroines that comes from books. Yes, she is really stubborn and impulsive, but that leads to some pretty interesting situations. She is so brave and compassionate, it's admiral. This book shows her weaknesses though. In Divergent, Tris was all tough skin and such because she was trying to find herself, but now, when everything has gone so wrong and she's lost so much, Tris is breaking. It's sad, but it creates an impressive emotional depth for readers to follow. Now, Tobias on the other hand, and fantastic! Tobias is Tris's boyfriend and he has so many layers. It's such an odd mix too; Abused as a child, Tobias has a vulnerability to him, but having chosen Dauntless as well, he is hard core and brave. But underneath all that Dauntless-ness he just wants to love and be happy. That's what makes him one of my absolute favorite guy characters in a book.
Now, I know most people might think that Divergent and Insurgent are like The Hunger Games, but they're really not. The only thing in common that they have is a horrible dystopian society and a female heroine. In some ways, this series is better than The Hunger Games, but in the end I count them as shaky equals. So please, by the love of God, and life, and everything else, read this book! It is the best thing I've read in a long time!
