Thoughts: When Mara Dyer moves, she hopes she will be able to leave her traumatic experience and past behind. Instead, it comes back to haunt her… in a very mysterious way. She is living her new life as a social outcast and having one of the biggest players in school after her. Michelle Hodkin, how do you do it? The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is very well rounded and fast paced. I was incredibly captivated with the mystery, and the suspense kept my teeth on edge. Mara Dyer was an unreliable narrator, albeit honest. Since it is believed she is seeing hallucinations, you can’t be sure what is real or not. This adds to the whole “mysterious factor” and makes the story a whole lot more interesting. Her banter with her love interest, Noah, is beyond perfect! Every time they were at it, made me crack a grin. It’s like they were made for each other! Noah at first didn’t seem like a character I would enjoy to have around. He seemed narcissistic and he had quite the reputation to be a player. But he does some things that really question how you perceive him at first, and eventually he grows on you. Some scenes also get really intense and made me keep wondering what the heck was going on. And since this is YA fiction, it could be pretty much anything! The last line made me think: OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH HOW WHAT I NEED THE SEQUEL! So, Michelle Hodkin? I WANT MORE! Just a heads up: this book contains a fair bit of cursing. What can I say? The heroine has a mouth like a sailor. -Palak
