Synopsis: Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers. Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him. Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself. -Goodreads
Thoughts: The body finder is about a girl who has a morbid secret ability: she can find dead bodies. Up until recently she usually only found dead animals, but there is a killer loose. And she is next. I thought the whole “sensing dead bodies” was unique, and not much used. It would be an ability that would be downright dreadful, but makes the story so much more interesting. Violet, the protagonist, is a very favorable heroine. She can cope, and also takes matters into her own hands no matter how dangerous it can be. She is also realistically flawed; she is stubborn and faces problems that some teens face today. I really enjoy heroines that aren’t perfect; it makes them so much more easy to relate to the readers! The story also gives a point of view of the killer, which is generally not featured. If you pay close attention to it, you can discover who the killer is easily. But don’t let that misguide you, at first you will be absolutely stumped! Until the plot twist is revealed, the reader is completely in the dark. The story progresses slowly at the beginning, but the ending is achingly fast paced! -Palak
