Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency- IPCA for short. She always thought she was normal, even if she deals with things that go bump-in-the-night on a daily basis. But when she encounters a shape shifter, she begins to face with things that question everything she has ever known. What really is Evie? And when someone begins mass killing paranormals, it may have more to do with her then she could ever imagine. She becomes a fly trapped in the center of a faeire conspiracy; will she have to make the ultimate sacrifice?

Paranormacy begins with the heroine tasing a vampire. Could the book have started any better? It only goes up from there! I love Keirsten White’s writing. She managed to combine both a paranormal and high school setting. (AFTER insert calamity here.) It was amazing how she took the height of climax, toned it down for a while, and then hit the readers with a breathtaking finale.
Evie was just so loveable. She was snarky, level headed, and downright awesome. I loved reading her narration! She is kick butt and doesn’t let anything stand in her way. She can face anything that lurks in the dark, armed with Tasey and her pink boots. And let’s just say, instead of curling up in the corner and crying in denial, she goes to a mall! Yep, this girl knows how to deal.
Another character I would like to bring into attention is the infamous Reth. Half faeire and half creeper; he is a brilliant villain. I relished the moments I could hate him. (I hope that makes sense to you!) He also has cryptic intentions and motivations – he doesn’t just “want” her. It makes the conspiracy so much more captivating.
Evie’s relationship with her love, interest, Lend, wasn’t just insta-love. At first, she was just curious about him, and they were on a flirty basis. But I felt like developing it into a full-fledged romance was unnecessary. Okay, so them meeting was crucial, but not them falling in love. He just was on the side. It one of those "to be there" romances.
Overall, I loved this book! From its spunky characters, enigmatic villains, and brilliant overall idea, I relished this book cover to cover. I am psyched to pick up the sequel, Supernaturally! The conclusion to the series, Endlessly, comes out later this year! -Palak
