Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

From Goodreads: Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
To sum up this book in one word, it would be..... epic. Tahereh Mafi's debut novel has sure left me craving for more! It has a dystopian setting with a tinge of X-Men. The story was original, the characters well defined, and the writing is absolutely gorgeous! Not to mention that Juliette's perspective was phenomenal! The heroine is just so full of hope and insight. To think, all her life people have treated her cruelly and tried to break her, but she's so strong and kind! One of the BEST YA heroines I have had the pleasure to come by! In a sense, most everyone saw her as a monster, and she turned out to be a bit more human than all of them. The other characters were also fantastic: bold Adam, brave James, and I even thought the antagonist, Warner, was a great villain that everyone loves to hate! My only problem was that even if Adam and Juliette's relationship is sweet, since they obviously care for each other, it felt a bit rushed. But I guess I am just the kind of reader that likes to see relationships blossom over time! Overall, this was a fast, good read and you can expect me eagerly awaiting the sequel! Tahereh Mafi....I want more.... SOON!- Palak :)
5 stars!
